At Tuck Away Preserve, we value our land and our animals. We are always in the process of improving our property and carefully looking after the hunting grounds. We also ethically treat and train our bird dogs. We have two English Pointers and one Boykin Spaniel who join us on hunts. Our property is a unique hunting experience because of our dedication to habitat management, land conservation, and excellent dog training.
Quail Hunting
A Whole New World
Even if you’re very familiar with hunting, quail hunting is a whole new world. With deer hunting, there’s a lot of sitting still, being quiet, and waiting for something to happen. With quail hunting, there’s a lot of walking, talking, interacting with dogs, and a lot more shooting. If you have years of experience with deer hunting, quail hunting can still be a thrilling new challenge since the process is so different. If you have no experience hunting and the thought of waiting around in a blind seems boring, quail hunting might be the perfect option for you.
Bobwhite Quail
While it’s usually Georgia and Texas that are known for their Bobwhite Quail, we at Tuckaway Preserve have been doing a lot to get these birds on our property here in Tennessee. It’s quite a bit harder to spot a Bobwhite, as the bird’s elegantly dappled plumage offers excellent camouflage. They forage in groups, scurrying between cover or bursting into flight if alarmed. Bobwhites have been in sharp decline throughout the past half-century, likely owing to habitat loss and changes in agriculture, and they are an increasingly high priority for conservation.
